They are all sold, but still cool and, I think, worth sharing here. No fast touge-attacking-downhill-inertiying JDM sports car this time though :)
First, 1991 Subaru Sambar Van - 2WD, 660CC, Manual - Currently waiting for a replacement alternator, which explains the jumper cables... :)
Then a 1991 Daihatsu Atrai Cruise 2WD, Manual and 660CC - Dings and scratches on it, but mechanically really good and 63000 (real) kilometers on it... And it’s cheap so...
And finally, what will be an offroad beast! 1991 Mitsubishi Minicab selectable 4wd, 5-speed with selectable rear-end gear for 5 super low speeds, 660cc and great offroading tires.
I really have to bring a kei-truck offroading someday...

Up in northern California people use those 4x4 models as cheaper utv’s. It’s cool how the motor is set sideways under there. Also that one looks awesome with those rims

I saw a Sambar street parked in downtown Portland last month. It was awesome.

For some reason harder to find here than other keivans these days :(

That’s the high end version, the Sambar Dias. These are expensive actually...

The off roader could be way fun. Bring it to the States and embarrass the bro truck crowd.
I have a plan for the Mini. When Halloween comes I’m going to see if I can barrow a plastic skeleton a friend has, drop it in the left seat and drive it around. See how many people do double takes.

So how slow is a 660 cc mini truck/van, will it do 60 mph? Will it go up a hill >30 mph? Asking for a friend.

Of course a kid in Portland would own a high end Subaru keivan

These will cruise at 65mph easily... Slowest ones, the 4-speed, 550cc keitrucks will still go 60mph easily. I did a video specifically dedicated to answer your question ;)
That’s a 4-speed, 550ccm, NA Mitsubishi Minicab.

Great, now I want a kei van to run to the home improvement / auto parts stores and general grocery-getting

Not just keicars, but yeah I work as a car exporter here in Japan... And it’s lots of fun :)
I don’t do high volumes sales, I take my time to take lots of pictures and videos of the cars I sell, it’s really enjoyable.

Yeah they’re nice.. Sucks that no import can get plated in CA though (unless you wanna spend 10 times the price of the keivan lol)

Wow - next time I’m in Japan we’ll have to do a video, or a podcast, or at least get a beer. And do you have a website?
Finally - saw this in Kyoto 18 months ago - forgotten the brand, but I want to say Daihatsu or Mitsubishi. What do you think?

I work with a small garage based in Amagasaki... They normally take care of shaken and car repairs, but were fine having me use their money to buy the cars I want, as long as I can somewhat sell them at one point haha :)
it’s located near Osaka, but I live 200km away in Okazaki near Nagoya, I go there like once a week.
As for that fire truck, it looks like some sort of Toyota LiteAce or TownAce variant... Not sure though, not a specialist in regular trucks :)
And just send me a message when you’re in Japan, I’m sure we can figure something out.

Hokaido is “slightly” out of the way for me haha, but if you come around Osaka or Nagoya, let me know :)
